Lisa Charles is a fiber artist whose “thread Paintings” use many kinds and colors of thread to cover her canvas to produce a painting. She combines her love of photography with free-motion embroidery to make photographs come to life.
To make each painting unique, Lisa doesn’t use a computerized embroidery machine. Instead, she uses a standard home sewing machine with the needle set to go straight up and down. For example, with the feed dogs lowered she controls the movement of the canvas under the needle.
